Renaissance is a family business established in 2005 by Brian and Ann Marie McGuigan. Both have a passion for the canals and narrowboats with over 30 years experience of messing about on boats and we’ve lived aboard since 1995.
Our dream was to establish a business that would see a return of historic narrowboats carrying goods on the Inland Waterways. In 2006 we purchased the working boat Alton from George Boyle who had been working the boat on the Macclesfield and Peak Forest Canals supplying fuels to boats and canalside properties.
Our vision has been to see other working boats return to carrying and over the years we’ve helped and advised a number of people start their own Canal Carrying Companies. However this year we’ve gone one better and helped establish two new companies. Firstly we’re working with Hannah Wardman and Jon Stiff to set up their fuelboat Mountbatten, working on the Llangollen canal. In addition we’ve formed a new joint venture company Four Counties Fuels Ltd with our good friend and colleague Martin Catterall. Its wonderful to share our dream of a Renaissance Canal Carrying with such committed and passionate enthusiast as ourselves.
